Submerciful
Submerciful, a subterranean marvel nestled beneath Olde Orangetown in New Orange City, has evolved from its origins as an underground shopping complex to a distinctive neighborhood with residential and commercial facets. Comprising three sub-levels, Submerciful thrives as a vibrant and interconnected underground community.
History
Originally named Submerciful Undermarket, the neighborhood's inception dates back to 1920 when the Undermarket Level was established as an underground shopping haven. Over the years, Submerciful expanded beyond its commercial roots, incorporating residential lots and earning its status as a full-fledged neighborhood.
Sub-levels
Undermarket Level (Level 1): The foundation of Submerciful, the Undermarket Level, retains its historical charm. Comprising seven permanent installations and an expansive open area housing temporary vendor stalls, it stands as a bustling hub for commerce. Interconnected with numerous buildings via tunnels and stairways, the Undermarket Level is a pivotal nexus for pedestrian traffic, linking to the Lusus underground neighborhood and the Grand Narthex.
Empire Level (Level 2): Added in 2006 alongside Level 3, the Empire Level introduces residential elements to Submerciful. Featuring 15 homes, a private storage unit company, and an Oranjestad Sewer Management depot, this level offers a unique living experience. Two observation decks provide jaw-dropping views— one overlooking the depths of the Dick Hallorann Mega Complex to the north, and the other capturing the enchanting ice caverns of Strataca to the south. Tunnels connect to the Bar-U-Bar Agrotronic Center and Neo-Lusus underground neighborhood.
Strataca Level (Level 3): Named after the captivating Strataca ice caverns to the south, Level 3 is a residential and educational hub. Housing 14 family homes, Strataca Elementary, Strataca Middle School, and the Tarjay shopping center, this level fosters a sense of community and learning. A descending stairway from both Level 2 and Level 3 grants access to the expansive Dick Hallorann Mega Complex.
Architecture and Environment
Submerciful's architectural identity is predominantly chiseled stone, echoing the material sourced from the original cavern it now occupies. This geological connection adds a distinctive character to the neighborhood, embracing the aesthetics of its subterranean setting.
