Kaldaron is a city located northeast of Aetheria, nestled within the territories of the Vaelthranni Compact. It sits on the northern edge of Oldeshire. Built by Lord Drekar, the town is renowned for its refined stone, brick, and sandstone architecture, all set against gleaming white quartz streets that reflect the sun in radiant bursts of light. Kaldaron stands as a strategic hub for both land and air travel, with a small dock for watercraft and an airship port on a steep hill to the town's southwest.

Geography & Infrastructure

Kaldaron's position near the Cerelia Line makes it a well-connected settlement within the Compact. While its boat dock is modest, the elevated airship port defines the skyline. The port is home to one of the Vaelthranni Compact's most formidable vessels— a massive warship adorned with a blue and yellow balloon and winged sides. This vessel is capable of unleashing a 24-gun broadside, and its presence reinforces Kaldaron’s strategic importance.

Notable Structures and Institutions

Kaldaron features several civic, commercial, and religious buildings, including:

  • Chantry of Contemplation: A serene temple dedicated to reflection and remembrance of those left behind.
  • Kaldaron Garrison: A military stronghold marked by twin watchtowers connected by a high bridge overlooking the streets.
  • Kaldaron Trading Company and Kaldaron Archives: Central institutions for commerce and record-keeping.
  • Kaldaron Cemetery and Undertaker’s Office: Located near the edge of town, solemn yet essential.
  • Kaldaron War Memorial: Honoring the city's fallen heroes.

The marketplace features several quirky and beloved vendors, including:

  • Drekar’s Devices
  • Nachos’ Tapas Stand
  • New Venice Travel Agency
  • Dr. Ben’s Dangerous Concoctions
  • Thistle Due Nicely (a local florist)
  • Kaldaron Community Center

The Underground Complex

Beneath Kaldaron lies a network of tunnels, roads, and chambers that support daily life and industrial activity:

  • Underground Road: A wide road connecting the surface to the subterranean district.
  • Mordremoth’s Mercantile: A general goods shop offering food, weapons, and supplies.
  • Kaldaron Vaults: Secure storage for ores, minerals, and critical assets.
  • Knickknack Ned’s Shack of Shambles: A curious shop that claims to buy and sell anything.
  • Cordon Bleurgh’s Snack Shop and Rusty’s Repairs: Food and repair services with flair.

The Kaldaron Detention Center sits within the underground district, capable of housing up to 13 inmates.

Further below, the area opens into a modest mining network. At the lowest accessible level lies a quaint neighborhood of seven homes, along with the Kaldaron Grand Temple— a large circular chamber dedicated to worship.

Culture & Role

Kaldaron represents a harmonious blend of militaristic readiness, religious observance, and local charm. Though its sister city Kuzvak boasts greater depth and industrial complexity, Kaldaron’s airship port, distinct architecture, and vibrant underground life make it a gem of the Vaelthranni Compact.
