The first occupants, the Grimsby personnel, moved into their new abode on December 1, 1955. The grand opening ceremony was officiated by Oranjestad councilwoman Kayla Morrison on August 1, 1955.
Planning on The Sister Grimsby started on 1 January 1992 and included rigorous tests and simulations of wind and structural loads on the design. Seven years of construction followed at the former site of a small Tier 2 neighborhood, beginning on 1 March 1993 with Tier 2 demolition and rerouting of the surrounding traffic.


The construction of the superstructure commenced on 1 April 1994. Interiors with furniture were completed on 1 January 1996, the spire was completed on 1 March 1996, and the first batch of Grimsby personnel moved into the building on 1 January 1997. The building was officially opened by the Oranje County councilwoman Kayla Morrison on 1 August 1999.
Constructed predominantly with reinforced concrete, The Sister Grimsby boasts a facade of steel and glass artfully crafted to mirror motifs found in traditional Oranjestad buildings. One of its distinctive features is its unique design, strategically straddling Oliphant Blvd below. This architectural ingenuity allows public traffic to seamlessly flow through the building, creating a dynamic interaction with its surroundings. Moreover, the Dulcia Line, a vital component of Oranjestad's transportation network, runs through the tower.
The 16-floor tower was constructed largely of reinforced concrete, with a steel and glass facade designed to resemble motifs found in traditional Oranjestad buildings.
