Cosmic Space Worm City

History

Cosmic Space Worm City was founded in 1870 inside the abandoned Fraggle Rock Quarry, once an important source for a wide variety of stones. The town was named as a joke and was never meant to be permanent, referencing a popular children's book at the time. The town reactivated some quarry activities and it quickly grew into an important source of marble. The town grew rapidly into a busy port, with impressive conveyor systems shuttling stone from the lower levels to the docks above.

In 1980, residents from nearby Anchorhead, known for their eccentric art projects, erected the "Cosmic Space Worm" statue over the city using rubble from the quarry operation.

In 2005, the city was devastated by Hurricane Jimmy, which collapsed several points along the outer wall. Water from the surrounding sea washed in, and within 24 hours, the city was lost.

In 2015, eccentric billionaire Franklin Trudeau, a former CSWC resident, drained a portion of the town and built a geodesic dome over the former downtown area. Restoration was completed by 2016 and some former CSWC residents returned. Today, about 300 call Cosmic Space Worm City home.

On May 4 2018, Oranjestad sold the town to Laurelian for an undisclosed sum.

The legend

A legend of Cosmic Space Worm City attributes the Jimmy Hurricane and subsequent flood to capturing a mermaid and not setting her free. This caused the region to be cursed by the mermaid, and led to the flood that destroyed the town. The legend holds that a tower bell calls for help from the sunken town.
