Atlantis, once referred to as the "Pearl of the Sea" and "The City of Safety," is a unique underwater city located north of Lost Valley and east of the Clementine region, close to Estabol Island. With its tagline, "Where all your dreams come true," Atlantis once thrived as a bustling hub of activity and innovation. However, its current state is one of abandonment and depopulation, a stark contrast to its former glory. Atlantis is the original home of the endangered Atlantean ethnic group, which represents one of the smallest minorities in the nearby Lost Commonwealth.

Overview

The origins of Atlantis trace back to a time of conflict and upheaval during The Great War. Originally constructed as an underwater submarine base and bunker by skilled engineers from the military, the city served as a strategic stronghold during the war. After the cessation of hostilities, Atlantis underwent a transformation, evolving into a city open to the public.

In the years following its conversion, Atlantis flourished and became a powerful player in its region. Its unique underwater architecture, interconnected glass tunnels, and promise of peace earned it the title of "The City of Safety." However, its rise to prominence came with challenges, as surrounding countries viewed Atlantis's influence as a threat. This led to confrontations and wars waged against Atlantis, leaving a lasting impact on the city.

Layout and Features

Atlantis's distinctive layout includes interconnected underwater tunnels that link its buildings. Notable features within the city include:

  • The Great Oxygen Maker: A room filled with lush greenery, serving both as a calming oasis and an essential part of the city's life support systems.
  • Atlantis Commons: An open seating area where residents and visitors can gather and socialize.
  • Shopping Area - Atlantis Shoppes: Housing a variety of shops, including the Wooden Nickel record store, Happy Paws Pet Shop, Molvar's Armory and Range, a Clam Buffet restaurant, Atlantis Florist, a General Store, and the Pearl Casino.
  • Pearl Casino: An entertainment hub within Atlantis, complete with a small hotel featuring six rooms. A shuttle train connects it to the main station.
  • Hospital: Equipped with multiple surgery rooms and a dedicated area for pregnancy services.
  • Atlantis Central: The city's tallest tower, breaching the water's surface, is a bustling mixed-use complex. It includes two apartments, a public pool, a financial center, a cell phone store, a religion-based investment firm, and a public wellness center.
  • Dutchman's Saloon: A quaint bar located outside Atlantis Central, providing a socializing spot for residents and visitors.
  • Atlantis Apartments: A residential complex situated near Atlantis Central, offering several luxury apartments.

Current Challenges and Risks

Despite its illustrious past, Atlantis currently faces significant challenges. Largely abandoned and depopulated, the city is at risk of being submerged completely. Water leakage issues and eroded foundations plague Atlantis, while the absence of protective barriers leaves its taller buildings vulnerable to passing ships. The bustling port of Estabol nearby further heightens these risks, making the future of Atlantis uncertain.

In 2016, the waters Atlantis resided in, just south of Lost, became heavily polluted during the Lost Commonwealth's Daniel Administration of 2016-2018. During the excavation and remediation of the area that would become the future city of Ascension, a decision was made in 2022 to use a vast number of towboats to move the entire city of Atlantis to its present day location.

Atlantis, once a thriving metropolis beneath the waves, now stands as a testament to both human ingenuity and the relentless forces of nature.
