Students pose for a photo within the Rainbow Mountain cavern, April 1970

Rainbow Mountain, a majestic peak situated to the south of the Aboite neighborhood and on the western fringes of College of Minds, is a prominent geological landmark that graces the New Orange City skyline. It forms part of a mountainous duo in the area, the other being Skylan Mountain. Rainbow Mountain is renowned for its distinctive features, most notably its expansive interior cavern illuminated by natural light-emitting minerals, casting mesmerizing blue-green hues. It is also the home of the enigmatic Obsidian Order, whose imposing temple complex is integrated into the mountain itself.

Description

Rainbow Mountain's unique allure lies in its captivating cavern, nestled within its towering mass. The interior of this natural wonder is a sight to behold, as the luminescent minerals adorning its walls bathe the cavern in an ethereal glow. The ground floor of the cavern is adorned with lush grass and a colorful array of blooming flowers, creating a serene and enchanting environment. Meandering through the heart of the cavern is a gentle creek, adding to its picturesque charm.

Rainbow Mountain's summit proudly boasts a majestic snow-capped peak. At the pinnacle of the mountain, a small, man-made hole has been strategically placed, allowing a slender shaft of natural light to penetrate the depths of the cavern within.

Perched atop and woven into the mountain's summit is the temple complex of the Obsidian Order, a shadowy and powerful religious organization that operates in secrecy. Constructed from dark stone with aquamarine detailing, the complex blends seamlessly with Rainbow Mountain's natural features.

The Obsidian Order

The Obsidian Order evolved from the ancient custodians of the Bakajin Tribunal into a secretive faction that now oversees the balance of power across New Orange City and its surrounding regions. Their purpose is to mediate disputes, enforce justice, and safeguard ancient secrets deemed too dangerous for the world to know.

The Order's members are carefully chosen and trained within the complex, and their presence is felt, even if rarely seen, across the city. Outsiders are forbidden from entering the temple, and the few who approach its massive doors find them locked and unyielding.

The aquamarine detailing on the temple's structures is said to signify the Order’s guiding principles: clarity, balance, and the preservation of order. This detailing also glows faintly at night, further adding to the mountain's mystique.

The Obsidian Order's philosophical and territorial rivalry with the Order of the Orange Flame, whose complex resides atop neighboring Skylan Mountain, is well-documented. The two factions have clashed over the centuries, often over the control of powerful relics and their opposing ideologies regarding the use of power.

Casiopea Bridge

Rainbow Mountain is connected to its neighboring counterpart, Skylan Mountain, via the remarkable Casiopeia Bridge. This engineering marvel spans the gap between the two mountains, providing a scenic route for travelers and adventurers alike. The bridge offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape and the city below, making it a popular attraction for visitors.

Educational Integration

Rainbow Mountain holds a special place in the heart of the College of Minds. This esteemed educational institution has seamlessly integrated the mountain into its curriculum, incorporating its geological marvels into many of its classes. Students often visit Rainbow Mountain to explore its cavern and gain firsthand knowledge of its geological wonders. The mountain serves as both an outdoor classroom and a source of inspiration for the academic community.

While the Obsidian Order keeps its activities strictly hidden from students and visitors, their enigmatic presence adds an air of intrigue to the mountain, making it a frequent topic of study and speculation within the College.

Recreational Destination

In addition to its educational significance, Rainbow Mountain is a beloved recreational destination for College of Minds students and residents of New Orange City. Its serene surroundings, illuminated cavern, and natural beauty offer a tranquil escape from the bustling urban life below. Many visitors find solace and inspiration in the mountain's enchanting ambiance.
