Homestead is a neighborhood in northeast Oranjestad in the Budapest River flood plain. It is directly east of Saturn Valley and Summit neighborhoods, and is directly south of the town of Shai-Ling.
History
The area south of Shai-Ling now comprising the neighborhood of Homestead saw the first white settlers arrive in the 1770s. Camp Nazareth and The Hemp Collective were among the first developments - both of which still stand today. One hundred years later, much of the existing farmland on the flats and hillsides by the river was purchased, laid out in lots and sold by local banks and land owners to create the neighborhood of Homestead. The area was officially incorporated into Oranjestad in 1882. The area has since it’s original development been a low-density upper middle class residential area.
The area is known for its high concentration of medical professionals.
Transportation
Shai-Ling road runs along the western edge of the neighborhood. One of the Shire’s oldest highways, Route 1, is just north of Homestead, connecting Shai-Ling to the Mainland.
Homestead is served by one Hyperloop stop.
