Saturn Valley

From The Shire
Jump to: navigation, search

Saturn Valley is a picturesque steep-sided canyon, gracefully carved by the Connoor River, located within the bustling city of New Orange City. This natural wonder exposes nearly two billion years of Shire's geological history, as the Connoor River and its tributaries intricately cut channels through layers of rock. The exact geological processes and timeline that shaped Saturn Valley remain subjects of debate among geologists, but recent evidence suggests that the Connoor River established its course through the canyon at least 4 million years ago. Since then, the river has continued its erosive work, sculpting the canyon into its present-day configuration.

Native Shirelings

The ancient Mr. Saturn people, a native Shai culture, once thrived in the Transfagarasan/Shai-Ling region approximately 3000 years ago. The Mr. Saturn were the first known civilization in the Saturn Valley area. While long believed to have vanished, persistent rumors hint at the existence of a small clan of Mr. Saturn still residing on the northern rim of the valley. Arrival and Settlement by Modern Shirelings

In 1820, Theodore Gavin played a pivotal role in the history of Saturn Valley by constructing the iconic cabins overlooking the valley from the north. Gavin's book, “The Echoes of the Ancients,” focused on the valley's unique qualities and is credited with preserving the area from the rapid development seen in nearby Oranjestad.

In 1908, Saturn Valley officially became part of Oranjestad and, in 1911, was declared a protected zone, limiting development to civic-approved projects only.

In 1995, Saturn Valley found itself encircled and overshadowed by New Orange City developments, leading to the repeal of its protection zone. Since then, under strict guidelines, 18 new sites have been constructed. Once the northernmost neighborhood, a new area named the North End emerged further north where the Oranjestad Docks once stood.

The historic Gavin Cabins, built during the 1820s, remain as enduring structures crafted by Theodore Gavin. Originally built for their panoramic views of natural beauty, these cabins now serve as vacation homes, requiring bookings well in advance.

Watermelon In Easter Hay Bridge, Conference of the Birds Rd, and Saturn Valley Roads intricately criss-cross the valley, connecting it to the surrounding neighborhoods.

While legally part of the Lusus neighborhood, the Saturn Valley Arcology Complex boasts its main tower that extends into the valley, making a distinctive mark on the landscape.

The Skylan Canal gracefully runs along the western edge of the canyon. In 1887, the Connoor River was redirected from the canyon through the intricate canal system of New Orange City. To prevent flooding in the valley below, an erosion barrier was completed the same year, safeguarding Saturn Valley's unique ecosystem.
