The North End, located on the far northern reaches of New Orange City, is a waterfront neighborhood with a rich history rooted in its maritime past. Bordered by the village of Shai-Ling to the east, the settlement of Bellegarde-les-Oranges to the west, and Saturn Valley neighborhood to the south, the North End has undergone significant transformations over the years.

History

Originally serving as bustling shipping docks for the city, the North End played a crucial role in New Orange City's early development. However, as the city's transportation infrastructure advanced with the introduction of rail, road, canal, and airship networks, the profitability of the ports waned. By 1981, the docks had fallen into disuse, paving the way for an impromptu community to form among the vacant structures. Many of these makeshift dwellings lacked adherence to strict building codes, resulting in a neighborhood with questionable structural integrity and an eclectic mix of architectural styles.

Over the years, the North End experienced cycles of revitalization and gentrification, gradually transforming from a neglected port area into a highly desirable waterfront neighborhood. Today, the district boasts a blend of residential, commercial, and retail spaces.

Geography and Transportation

Situated at the confluence of various transportation arteries, the North End is well-connected to the rest of the city. Two rail lines, the Hyperloop, and the intercity Zelos line, provide efficient transit options. Additionally, the neighborhood rests upon Route 1, one of the Shire's earliest highways, facilitating connections to New Brumley and Mainland.

Noteworthy is the absence of tiered road platforms, a characteristic feature in many other New Orange City neighborhoods. Instead, the North End embraces a more traditional surface road layout.

Underground Developments

Beneath the North End lies Caldwell Hall, a significant underground complex. Although legally distinct from the neighborhood, Caldwell Hall contributes to the area's infrastructure and character.

Moreover, the North End conceals ancient tunnels that once formed part of the city of Calantha, adding a layer of historical depth to this vibrant waterfront community.
