Sammarck in late 2023

Sammarck, a region nestled southwest of Oldeshire, serves as a distinctive transition between the landscapes of Oldeshire to the east and the arid expanses of the Demmatrodine to the south. Its diverse topography encompasses dense forests, swampland, and a striking canyon area adorned with layers of vibrant red clay.

Political Dynamics

Owing to its strategic location, Sammarck experiences a unique blend of political influences. Three out of its twelve major settlements are politically controlled by the New Sammichian Empire, bridging the regional governance between Oldeshire and the Demmatrodine.

Settlements

  • Castle Argh: - Situated at the southern border, Castle Argh has withstood the test of time, guarding the natural chokepoint between the Demmatrodine and Sammarck. The castle boasts a millennium-long history and remains in active use.
  • Jestown: - A small town northwest of Castle Argh, Jestown exudes a quaint charm against the backdrop of Sammarck's diverse landscapes.
  • Thothum: - Nestled within the natural red clay canyons, Thothum stands as a large town in the southwest corner of the region.
  • Squidonia: - Originally conceived as the capital city of the Squidian Empire, Squidonia's development has stalled, leaving only a handful of constructed buildings. The city rests at the mouth of Enderfulf Bay.
  • Principality of Blackwall: - This tiny principality is renowned for its Wizard’s Guild, adding a touch of mystique to Sammarck's cultural tapestry.
  • Groundflower: - Groundflower is a small village that still retains its Enpeecee charm, providing a glimpse into the region's historical roots.
  • Nunya: - Known for its iconic windmill still in operation, Nunya preserves its traditional character amid the evolving landscape.
  • Withering: - A New Sammichian-controlled town with a mysterious aura, Withering harbors a dark secret under the leadership of its Jarl, Zyno.
  • Paris: - A small village along the western edge under New Sammichian Empire control, it monitors sea traffic between the Demmatrodine Corridor Canal and the Samark Canal.
  • Leif: - Controlled by Sammichians near the Demmatrodine Corridor Canal, Leif plays a role in overseeing key waterways.
  • Covfefe: - A small, fading community
  • Elden: - Positioned at the border between Sammarck and Oldeshire, Elden stands as the largest town, serving as a vital gateway for trade and travelers.

Connectivity and Infrastructure:

Sammarck's intricate network of paths between settlements is complemented by the Western Highway, a vital route terminating at Castle Argh. Two significant rail lines, the Cerelia Line and West Shire Rail, enhance regional connectivity, facilitating both transportation and trade. The western edge of Sammarck is defined by three canals – the Demmatrodine Corridor Canal, Samark Canal, and Imperial Passage Canal – each under the control of the New Sammichian Empire. These waterways play a crucial role in regional navigation and commerce.
