Lost Vigil

Lost Vigil is a remote, enigmatic island settlement located in the southern reaches of the Postrema region of the Shire. It lies just south of Mythos and west of Phobean, isolated in the ocean and lashed by wind and waves. The island was founded by C_Plummer, who is also known for constructing Hearthstone in Oldeshire.

Geography

The island is defined by steep rocky cliffs, alpine meadows, and a stark, moody landscape that contributes to its mysterious atmosphere. The southern portion of the island is dominated by a pair of tall, narrow stone peaks, into which two towering stone structures have been seamlessly built. Their exact function is unknown, though they resemble ancient watchtowers or perhaps decommissioned lighthouses.

The northern end of the island features a small mountain outpost, nestled into the snowy landscape. Stone roads and bridges stretch across the island’s rugged terrain, connecting the scattered towers and points of interest.

Mystery and Atmosphere

Visitors are greeted by a sign reading:

"The Lost Vigil has seen your coming."

When departing, another sign reads:

"This land will follow your journey."

These cryptic messages, coupled with the island’s austere setting and apparent lack of active habitation, have given Lost Vigil a near-mythical status among Shire travelers. Its purpose remains unknown, and no records exist confirming if it ever had permanent residents.

Notable Features

  • Southern Watchtowers: Two massive towers built directly into rocky stone spires, possibly remnants of a long-forgotten defense system or beacon.
  • Northern Outpost: A small stone base carved into the mountainside, accessible by stone paths.
  • Bridged Infrastructure: Elevated stone roads traverse the landscape, offering stunning cliffside views and connecting key points across the island.

Legacy

Lost Vigil remains one of the Shire’s most mysterious and visually striking landmarks. It draws explorers, writers, and mystics who are drawn to its desolate beauty and the unanswered question: What was the Vigil watching for?
