Great Mosque of Baba. Several other cities and settlements around Baba also include mosques.

The Baba Cultural Realm (Arabic: العالَم الثقافي البابلوني, al-ʿālam ath-thaqāfī al-bābalūnī) is a hypothesized cultural area consisting of the Sultanate of Baba, as well as other cities and settlements in southern Cactus County Region with cultural ties to the Sultanate. The research underlying this concept was developed during the 2025-2026 Cactus County Wiki Expedition by Karya Kelana Inc.

Concept origin and naming

The Cactus County Wiki Expedition Team was formed by Karya Kelana Inc. in 2025 to investigate and document builds in Cactus County Region. During the expedition, the team discovered connections of culture between the Sultanate of Baba and a number of nearby settlements. These cultural connections are shown in several forms, including mosque and mosque-like structures, canals, Arabic naming conventions, as well as _DESTRUCTOR_ being the WorldGuard (WG) owner of Baba and nearby settlements. Interests rose within the ranks of Karya Kelana Inc., as research of these cultural connections and its publication would strengthen cultural and diplomatic relations within the region, as well as becoming a hallmark contribution of the expedition to the region and The Shire as a whole.

Several discussions regarding Baba Cultural Realm are carried out in the JaMo Library, Karya Kelana Inc. HQ.

Discussions within the team, with the advice of Shaykh Shabir al-Babaluni, produced some naming suggestions. Among these are the Baba Realm (Arabic: العالَم البابلوني, al-ʿālam al-bābalūnī), Babasphere (Arabic: المجال البابلوني, al-majāl al-bābalūnī), and Greater Baba (Arabic: باب الكبرى, bāba al-kubrā). These proposals were ultimately dismissed to respect the sovereignty of many settlements within the cultural area. This consideration paved the way for the addition of "Culture" (Arabic: الثقافي, ath-thaqāfī) to its eventual name. Other suggested names include Baba Cultural Area (Arabic: النطاق الثقافي البابلوني, an-niṭāq ath-thaqāfī al-bābalūnī) and Baba Cultural Sphere (Arabic: المجال الثقافي البابلوني, al-majāl ath-thaqāfī al-bābalūnī). However, these were deemed too academic and undermining of the cultural pride of Babalonians and Baba culture. This became the basis of the word "Realm" (Arabic: العالَم, al-ʿālam, can also be translated as "World") within the area's name. According to _DESTRUCTOR_, the demonym of Baba citizens is "Babalonian", hence the Arabic word al-bābalūnī (البابلوني). These eventually became the basis of the "Baba Cultural Realm" name, or al-ʿālam ath-thaqāfī al-bābalūnī (العالَم الثقافي البابلوني) in Arabic.

Areas

The research from The Cactus County Wiki Expedition suggested that areas included within the cultural area must fulfill two of these requirements:

  • Proximity from The Sultanate and its Cultural Realm, which suggests routine interaction and settling of Baba citizens. Included within these are:
    • The Sultanate of Baba itself;
    • Settlements near Baba; and
    • Settlements near areas that are previously included within Baba Cultural Realm.
  • Cultural evidence of Babalonian influence, which might manifest in several forms:
    • Mosque and mosque-like structures, or
    • Buildings and structures made by or with the Sultanate, or
    • Common WorlGuard ownership or membership by _DESTRUCTOR_, or
    • Other physical evidences of relationship with Babalonians or the Sultanate.

Several settlements qualify for these:
