The Solurian Hold
History
The Solurian Hold is the first citadel and fortified position built in the Solurian Empire after the exodus from Puesta del Sol. Construction was completed in the fourth year of the First Age, when the pathway up was finished and the gatehouses were completed. Originally, the Hold was built to house the residing royal family, but during the rule of Eedon Neebo II, supplies found difficulty getting up the mountain due to the heavy snow and icing of the roads. Thus, a somewhat secret elevator/pulley system was made inside the mountain to funnel supplies up and down from and to the Solurian Hold. Recently, construction has been undertaken to both refurbish the exterior of the Hold and to replace the outdated and aged pulleys of the elevator system with the more modern thaumo-nuclear engine which can propel it up and down in haste.
Design
The Solurian Hold sits on top of the only mountain on the Solurian Peninsula and around Sol. As such, it has a commanding view of practically all the surrounding land. On clear days, it might even be possible to view as far as Fulfwotz. The seven gatehouses leading up to the main courtyard of the Hold are placed along the winding path up, and are all easily defensible from ground assault. Two large towers connect to the Hold's main walls, and allow for defense and support of not only the pathway up but also of the nearby mountainside in the event soldiers try to rappel up. .....to be cont. .....
The Hold is where the Governing Council of the Solurian Empire holds its most important meetings, due to the fact that the room is both soundproof and highly secured. The only times this room is used are in emergency council meetings, used to decide things which affect the entire Empire, such as declarations of war, large emergency trade sanctions, and more. Regular meetings might be held here but often times, council members prefer to meet down in the city regular, in the council building next to the main governance office for Sol and the Central Territory.
