Petra

Petra & Jalmeera, often referred to simply as Petra, is a small town of remarkable historical and architectural significance, located directly east of the New Orange City neighborhood of Pennsy and south of the village of Shan-ning.

Overview

Petra, the more renowned part of the town, is distinguished by its large, elaborate rock-cut facade. This facade, skillfully carved into Petra Mountain, serves as the entrance to a tunnel leading deep into the heart of the mountain.

Inside Petra Mountain lies a massive cavern, an expansive space that houses a unique and awe-inspiring sight: a giant chess set. The chess pieces are colossal, with pawns standing at 14 meters, knights at 19 meters, and queens reaching a height of 40 meters. The pieces are divided into two striking color themes: water blue and lava red. The chessboard is set but remains unplayed, creating a fascinating tableau.

Petra Mountain itself is characterized by its snow-capped peak and mostly treeless, smooth appearance, forming a striking backdrop to the town and the rock-cut facade.

Jalmeera is the name of the small town located just outside the Petra rock-cut facade. It forms the residential and commercial hub of the area. The buildings in Jalmeera are constructed of distinct sandstone, topped with red brick roofs, giving the town a cohesive and picturesque aesthetic. The town features a few dozen homes and shops, along with a small outdoor market area, providing a quaint and welcoming atmosphere.

Jalmeera has a small train station, connecting it to wider regions via the Skira Line, facilitating access for both residents and visitors.

The combination of Petra's historical rock-cut facade and the massive, untouched chess set within the mountain makes the area a significant cultural and touristic attraction. The town of Jalmeera, with its charming architecture and market, complements the grandeur of Petra, offering a serene and hospitable environment for visitors.
