Oldetown

Oldetown is the oldest district of Fulfwotz, first settled by the Lilladonians a little over 2,000 years ago. It is located near the coast of the city and centered around Waterwell Plaza. It houses one of the entrances to the Enderfulf Chunnel, along with Fulfwotz Grand Terminal.

History

Oldetown was first built up by the Lilladonians around 2,200 years ago. Originally meant to house miners who had work in the gold mines, it contained more houses than public buildings, until failed gold prospectors resorted to establishing businesses. One example is the Rotten Scroll Tavern and the Shirepointe Inn, two of the oldest establishments in the city. Waterwell Plaza also contained numerous vendor stalls, which still exist today and run in family bloodlines.

Things began to change in Oldetown once the town of Fauna was taken over by the Old Sammichian Empire. The newly-claimed colony attracted all sorts of strange lepers and societies from Ceriumuse, most notably the kind wizard simply referred to as Wyzard. He and his wife resided in the clocktower. At the time, as religion was gaining a foothold in the Shire, there was a large amount of discrimination and hate put towards those with magical abilities. In Year 237, King Witchater was coronated, and cracked down on such people. He harassed the Wyzard and his wife to leave the city, but when they refused, he announced a city-wide manhunt for his wife, who would be tortured and would die a slow, painful death if found. Knowing that King Witchater had certainly done this in the past, the Wyzard lured his wife into the Old Watchtower, where he beat her to death with a rock to spare her. The story has been reinterpreted into the world-renowned musical/opera, Wyzard and Witchater.

Drawn by the amount of magical equipment the Wyzard left behind, a cult named the Ascenders claimed the clocktower, sacrificing locals and in no way helping to decrease resentment of the occult. Many claim the cult, who nearly ended the Ich Dynasty by attempting to sacrifice the childless and siblingless King Veltigaht in 549, still exists today in the depths of the abandoned clocktower.

In 1670, Oldetown was nearly destroyed by a massive fire caused by the collapse of the old Wennemarck Lighthouse, which ignited a group of trees and subsequently five houses in the district. Fifteen people died.

Cityscape

The Oldetown cityscape is dominated by the Clocktower, the Shirepointe Inn, and Fulfwotz Grand Terminal, which is inside the former Saint Retsbols Cathedral. It is also surveyed by the Lobbywood Sign, a spraypainted piece of graffiti that has been on the face of a cliff since 1992.
