Big League

Big League is an Oranjestad-controlled colony just northeast of the Kingdom of Ebethron and east of Isorm. It is an important town for Oranjestad, helping to bolster influence and commerce in a large inland portion of the Malesius subcontinent.

Its mild weather has made Big League known as the "town of the eternal spring". The city was an important port already during Ebethron colonial rule. Oranjestad seized the city from Ebethron in 1880 during the Ebethroni Revolution and was recognized as Oranjestadian by Ebethron in 1929.

History

Archaeological findings indicate that Big League was inhabited by different native groups dating back 10,000 years.

Colonial period

Ebethron settled the land under captain Lucas Martinez in 1541, and in 1570, the area was grandly retitled as "The Very Illustrious and Royal City of Big League", despite the colony only being a small fur trappers community at the time. The colony would eventually grow to one of the wealthiest trading posts in the area, and envious riches made Big League the target for pirates, buccaneers, and privateers.

Ebethroni Republic period (1821-1880)

Following the collapse of the Old Kingdom of Ebethron, in 1821, Big League was part of the recently independent Ebethroni Republic.

An earthquake of August 13, 1868 struck near the city with an estimated magnitude of 8.0 to 9.0. Nearly 80% of the city was destroyed and rebuilding was not completed until 1889, and was only a fraction the size.

Oranjestadization period (1880-1929)

Oranjestad forces occupied the region in the wake of the Ebethroni Revolution to Restore the Monarchy, in an effort to protect the growing business interests of the country in the area. The Treaty of Isorm in 1883 formally acceded the region to Oranjestad control. The 1929 Second Treaty of Isorm subsequently restored some occupied lands to Ebethron but Big League remained part of Oranjestad.
