Veneziana

Veneziana is the northenmost borough of Fulfwotz, and is compromised of the districts of Venezia Beach and Little Sur. It has the largest beach in Fulfwotz, and is internationally known for the shopping and amenities it provides. Famous attractions include the Merchants' Market, Playa Del Diablo, and Peddler's Way.

History

Veneziana was first put on the map following the large immigration wave to Fulfwotz in the early 1900's. Thousands of Venezian immigrants had arrived in Fulfwotz, but unable to handle any more immigration, the government placed severe restrictions on immigration in hopes of discouraging the Venezians to move into the city. However, instead of legally becoming a citizen of Fulfwotz, the Venezians resorted to building shantytowns just outside of the city limits. They were hot, crowded, and water was incredibly hard to come by; stories of the horrors of the shantytowns are still exchanged today. Some say that freshwater was so scarce, many had resorted to drinking their own urine and collecting sweat to be consumed as well. Needless to say, the then-Kingdom of Fulfwotz considered these shantytowns to be very unsightly and a wrench in further development of the city. It is said that the slums were demolished a total of six times, but were always rebuilt nearly overnight. Finally, in 1925, an unnamed ecoterrorist group had become enraged with the Venezians for polluting the water nearby with trash and feces and killing off wildlife, so they snuck into the slums with blowtorches and napalm. Across the expansive slum, four massive explosions shook the city from its foundations, and triggered a landslide in Little Sur. Hundreds of homes were carried into the ocean, and even more were razed to the ground by the explosions and the fires that followed. The Kingdom finally intervened, and requested that Venezia Nuova recall those who had lived in the shantytowns. In 1931, after the Civil War, the now-Empire drew up plans to develop the area into middle-class neighborhoods and a high school, named after one of the project's chief benefactors, Flavius Ubitiqúe Biltbobble. It was also around this time that Emperor Sammich the Magnificent loosened the laws his father, King Drefnex II, had put in place. This made business easier and more plentiful in the city, attracting businesses and merchants from across the Shire. Of course, the easiest place to open up shop would have been Veneziana, which was still in development and had many attractive buildings available. Soon enough, hordes of shops and street vendors had set their roots in Veneziana, which it's now known for today.
