Baden
Baden is a small historic town in central Oldeshire, located west of Bloodmist, north of Outerhaven, and east of Silence Castle. First established in 1868 following the discovery of gold in the nearby hills, Baden rapidly grew into a bustling settlement, reaching a population of around 2,000 residents during its peak years in the late 19th century.
However, the prosperity was short-lived. By 1900, the local gold reserves were exhausted, and the town’s population began to dwindle. Baden was soon after classified as a ghost town. Despite its decline, a small number of residents remained. Today, just eight families still call Baden home.
The town is notable for its distinctive black and white buildings, a stylistic hallmark that sets it apart from other nearby communities. Sixteen family homes remain standing, though most are now unoccupied. Four original storefronts still line the central street, having been repurposed into gift shops and spaces for historical reenactments that reflect Baden’s gold rush heritage.
Now preserved as a heritage site, Baden is open to tourists and offers guided walking tours Monday through Friday at 9:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., and 5:00 p.m., allowing visitors to step back in time and explore the remnants of a once-thriving gold rush town.
